In a final step, I would like to share my impressions of the novel, after finish reading.
So I think this novel is written especially for pupils, who have to read a book in school, muchly when they don't want to.
I think this book isn't like the other boring ones, I red at school.
After the first chapter, I thought, this book would only be about squash but the squash slipped into the background and a romantic love story, with at taste of dramatic comes through.
So I can definitely recommend this book to everyone who is interested in enthralling stories.

Now I would like to present you some facts, which show this special friendship between Spider and Jamie.
The reader gets to know, that both know eachother for really long time, because they are neighbours and Spider lives in the house next to Jamie.
Jamie knows, that he can always count on him, when he has got some problems or just when we needs someone to talk to.
So this quotation shows, how happy Jamie is, when he meets his friend: After supper, he took the basketball, wandered out to the garden and threw the ball up at the basket on the wall, He often found it relaxing to come out here and throw a basketball and there was always the chance that the sound would bring Spider out from next door and they could talk.
So Jamie really whises to see Spider, to have the chance to talk to him.
It's also clear, that Spider trusts him a lot, because when Jamie asks him for the money, to pay the men off, Spider doesn't know, why he wants to have the money but although, he gives it to him because he wants to help his friend, no matter in what situation he is at this moment.
I think, Jamie is really happy to have a friend like Spider, especially, when he flees from his father.

"Whenever you see your shadow Jamie, just remember you're looking at me."
Abby says this sentence to Jamie, when he decides to leave her.
This sentence shows, that both share the same fate, which make them "transform" into shadows.
And because of this, the two "Shadows" can affiliate with eachoter and if they do that, they grow stronger and they can solve problems together.

I'm not finished yet ;) I decided to add some more things like "A sentence to think about", "The Relationship of Jamie and Spider" and "My Impression", which I created together with my Classmate Carmen, so don't wonder, if you find the same aspects in her weblog ;)

Chapter 21 is not the end of the book, but I will stop my weblog here, so that I won't give you too much information. I will just give you a little overview of what expects you in the Chapters 21 to 27:

Jamie and Abby are trying to reach Cumbria per hitch hiking, which is very difficult, because noone wants to pick them up. Finally a van took them to a little service station, just a few miles from Cumbria. They're walking the whole night, and reach the Farm in Cumbria in the early morning.
After some exhausting hours, they arrive at a farm in Cumbria, where Abby knows the woman, who is living there. Abby and Jamie rest there for a while and get in love which eachother but Jamie knows, that he has to go home and sort things out. He leaves Abby and when he comes home, everything changed. His mother found his secret book, and thought it was all her fault. So she took an overdose to kill herself. His father is a completely different person, very gentle and understaning. He beats up Danny in a final match and tries to sort things out with his father...

So, this is just a little overview of chapter 21 to 27, that should encourage you to read this book as well.

As you might realized, I created all contributes from Chapter 10 til the end at the 29th of march, because I had difficult problems with the internet the last few weeks, so I couldn't post anything. I just changed the dates of create to give this weblog a kind of good structure, so please excuse ;)

Jamie finally pays off the men with the money, Spider gave to him. Ronald is very worried about Jamie and asks Spider, if he knows, where he is. But Spider didn't tell anything. After that, Jamie searches for the strange girl and is suddenly confronted with a girl, who is getting a baby. At the end of the chapter, we finally get to know the name of her: Abby.

This chapter is also very good, because the men are finally paid off, and Abby gets a little baby, which is called 'Jamie'. I really enjoyed reading this chapter, because I just liked this situation, which is described very well. I also think, that the book will continue in a very good way, and I hope, Jamie and Abby will finally reach Cumbria.

Jamie gets catched by the two men, and he tells them, that he has the money to pay them off, so they will leave the girl alone. Later he meets Spider, who turned out to be the best friend you can think about, because he gives him the money - which was usually for his dream car - without asking questions. He also helps Jamie out with food and arnica cream, because the two men beat him up.

Finally we got here ;) This two chapter are my favourite ones. I liked, that Jamie decides to help the girl, by lending money from Spider. And what I liked even more was the fact, that Spider gives him the money without even asking questions. I think, this could only do a very very good friend, and I was very happy to see, that Spider turned out to be this ;)

Jamie stared at him, again feeling the enormity of what he was asking.
"Yeah in an envelope. Christ, I'm so sorry. What will you say when people ask you if you've seen me ?"
"I'll just say I haven't."
"What about the money ?"
"What about it ?"
"Aren't you mad at me ?"
"Yep."
There was no anger in Spider voice. But Jamie knew what the loss of this money would mean to his friend.

In this short chapter Jamie and the girl are talking about what to do next. She says, that she will leave Cumbria tomorrow to begin a new life in Cumbria, at friends of a friend. Jamie wants to come with her, but first wants to sort some things out. Suddenly they are detected by the two men and had to start running.

This chapter was really enthralling to me, because you finally get to know something about the girl, even not her name. But it's really good to see, that Jamie and she come closer to eachother. The highlight of this chapter are the two men, who detect Jamie and the girl.

The story continues at Jamie's place. He is punished by his father, because he lost the competition on the exercie bike. Chapter 14 is about Jamie and the strange girl again, who are meeting in an alleyway, because Jamie finally ran away from home. He and the strange girl are trying to search refuge in Jamie's school, because they're haunted by the two men.

I started hating the father in this chapters, for punishing Jamie this hard. And his mother doesn't even do anything against it, she just let go her husband. I was horrified, how hard these strokes really were, as you can see in the quotation that I added at the end. But my mood raised, as I noticed, that Jamie finally ran away from home to go with the strange girl, while trying to help her.

Dad's hand struck him hard in the side of the face. He struggled to free himself but the hand swung in again, and again, and again, Dad spitting out words with each blow.
"Ungrateful...little...shit...bloody...little...shit."

This Chapter is a very very important one in the book. It tells about Jamie, Danny and their fathers Ronald and Powell, who are meeting at the gym. Jamie's father (in the following called by his first name Ronald) sets the power-level of a bike on the same level as Danny's, which is much higher set then Jamie's normal training setting. A really bad competition begins and Ronald bets 50 Dollar on Jamie. The Chapter ends with an unconcious Jamie...

In this Chapter I realized, that Ronald is very ruthless with Jamie. He is even ready to bet 100 Dollars on him, even if Jamie couldn't keep up with Danny. I think, he expects to much of his son, and thats why they haven't a good relationship to eachother.




"Weakening ? Are you out of your mind ? Danny's the one who's slowing down. Look, he's trying to save energy by not pedalling so hard."
Danny shot him a venomous glance an put on speed. Powell scuffed.
"Thats rubbish. Your boy's the one who's slowing down. Look at him. He's knackered."
"He'll outlast your boy."
"No Way."
"Fifty quid ?"
"Done."
Jamie stared at his father in disbelief.

In this two Chapters, Jamie and the strange girl come closer to each other, still suspicious to eachother. But Jamie is really trying to help her, even as she says, that he shouldn't get involved in her life. The Chapters also tell about Spider, who found the perfect car for himself.

My reaction to this two Chapters were different. First of all, I expected, that the strange Girl wouldn't be that suspicious, because Jamie really tries to bring some comfort in her life. But the girl warns him, not to get involved in her life. The second thing I thought about was the fact, that Spider had found a good car for himself, so it becomes clear, that he has a lot of money, if he could pay for a car like that.
